Molinaro on Capital Tonight: I Will Do Everything in My Power to Protect Social Security & Medicare

Leeds, NYU.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) joined Nick Reisman on Spectrum’s Capital Tonight to discuss protecting Social Security and Medicare, the ongoing debt ceiling negotiations, Governor Hochul’s proposed budget, and more.

Excerpts from Rep. Molinaro’s interview can be found below. Watch the full interview here.

AMERICA CANNOT DEFAULT ON ITS DEBT: “I’m very aware of the two challenges that we face. One: America cannot default on its debts. There’s little question about that. The other of course is making sure we’re taking responsibility for spending. You can’t continue to spend at the levels that we are.”

CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE ARE OFF THE TABLE: “Medicare and Social Security is not on the table and I will do everything in my power to protect both.”

HOCHUL’S BUDGET PUTS VITAL PROGRAMS AT RISK: “What the governor is attempting to do is redirect up to a billion dollars in aid that is federal money directly focused on supporting our most vulnerable. These are dollars that are supposed to help those who live in poverty, seniors who need access to support and care, even families that need access to daycare. I have encouraged Republicans and Democrats to make clear that this is a mistake. The federal intent was that these federal dollars go to assist counties and the City in administering Medicaid– not in supporting a general fund in Albany.”
