Rep. Molinaro Statement on Mayor Adams’s Push to Move Migrants From NYC to Upstate NY

U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) reacted to New York City Mayor Adams’s comments this week on moving migrants from New York City to Upstate New York:

“We need complete transparency surrounding any plan to relocate migrants from New York City to Upstate New York. Strategic relocation meetings should not be happening behind closed doors, but in public view and in coordination with community leaders and residents that will be impacted.

“Communities that I represent in Upstate New York are already being impacted by the crisis at our southern border, with illicit drugs steadily flowing in and contributing to an uptick in overdose deaths. Instead of focusing on relocation plans, leaders in our state should be demanding that President Biden secure the border. I want to solve this problem with compassion for the communities and migrants that are impacted and stand ready to work with anyone who is honest and earnest about finding a bipartisan solution.”

Background:

This week, Rep. Molinaro and Republicans in New York’s Congressional Delegation sent a letter to President Biden requesting information on the number of migrants that have been moved from the southern border to New York State and their whereabouts. Additionally, they asked for information on any pending federal plans to relocate migrants within New York State.
