Binghamton, NY – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) today announced he is requesting $60 million in federal funding for community development projects in New York’s 19th Congressional District. Last year, Rep. Molinaro was successful in securing $27.6 million for community development projects. Each year, the House Appropriations Committee collects community development project requests from Members of Congress for consideration in the upcoming appropriations bill. These requests direct funding to local government or non-profit entities to carry out specific projects that are eligible for federal support and benefit the local community. This year, Rep. Molinaro is requesting that the House Appropriations Committee approve $60 million in federal funding for projects that improve roadways and water infrastructure, help EMS agencies upgrade facilities, and makes public buildings and walkways ADA compliant. Rep. Molinaro said, “I came to Congress to deliver for Upstate New York. These funds will advance our local communities and address dire needs. I'm fighting for this crucial funding to better our infrastructure, improve access to clean drinking water, and revamp our towns and villages." A list of the requests Rep. Molinaro made and brief descriptions of the projects can be found here and below: Recipient: City of Binghamton Project Name: Moeller Street Pump Station Request Amount: $9,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for a new storm water pump station at an intersection of streets to carry storm water from the neighborhood to the Susquehanna River.
Recipient: Greenville Volunteer Fire District Project Name: Greenville Volunteer Fire District #1 Capital Project Request Amount: $5,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for a new firehouse.
Recipient: Town of Rockland Project Name: Town of Rockland Water District Infrastructure Upgrades Request Amount: $5,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for land acquisition of a new site and the purchase of a new water tower.
Recipient: Village of Bloomingburg Project Name: Bloomingburg Wastewater Treatment Plant & Pump Station Upgrades Request Amount: $5,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for the replacement of the existing equipment to address station clog and overflows.
Project Name: Village of Greene Water System Improvements Request Amount: $5,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for investments in the water treatment/filtration system for drinking water.
Project Name: Crumhorn Mountain Conservation Request Amount: $5,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for the purchase and conservation of heavily forested lands and 63 acres of federal wetlands. Recipient: Village of Marathon Project Name: Village of Marathon Wastewater Treatment Plant and Pump Station Improvements Project Request Amount: $4,468,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for the replacement of existing mechanical equipment for wastewater treatment plant and pump stations. Recipient: Village of New Berlin Project Name: Village of New Berlin Drinking Water Infrastructure Upgrades Request Amount: $4,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for replacing the water distribution lines, putting in enhancements to the well house, pump house, and storage facilities.
Recipient: West Athens Lime Street Fire District Project Name: West Athens Lime Street Firehouse Construction Request Amount: $4,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for the construction of a new firehouse.
Recipient: Village of Endicott Project Name: Village of Endicott Streetscape Improvement Project Request Amount: $4,000,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for streetscape upgrades to improve walkability and create a safer environment for the residents/tourists.
Recipient: Rock Hill Fire Station Project Name: Rock Hill Fire Station Project Request Amount: $3,500,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used to add 2 truck bays, enlarge 4 exiting truck bays, add a radio room, chiefs room, d-con room, engineers room and workshop, mechanical room, commissioners room, and ADA bathrooms and showers.
Project Name: Village of Valatie Water Filtration Request Amount: $2,200,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for investment in the water treatment/filtration system for drinking water.
Project Name: North Street Reconstruction Project Request Amount: $1,995,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for reconstruction of North Street from North Broad Street to Lester Ave. This includes the design and construction for replacement of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure, and ADA compliant sidewalks.
Recipient: Town of Franklin Project Name: Hamlet of Treadwell Water District Repair and Mandated Upgrades Request Amount: $960,000 Request Explanation: The funding would be used for upgrading and modernizing drinking water wells, water quality guards, and aging pipes.
