Molinaro Advances Another Bipartisan Bill

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19) today announced the Think DIFFERENTLY About Emergencies Act was voted out of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure and will advance to the House Floor. Rep. Molinaro introduced this bipartisan bill last week alongside U.S. Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV-1). This bill builds on Rep. Molinaro’s ‘ThinkDIFFERENTLY’ initiative to provide resources to individuals with disabilities and their families.

Watch Rep. Molinaro speak about his bill advancing here.

A study prepared for the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction found that individuals with disabilities are two to four times more likely to die or be critically injured during disaster situations. With billion-dollar natural disasters on the rise in the United States, Rep. Molinaro’s bill directs the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to commission a report on the assistance and resources available to individuals with disabilities and their families that are impacted by major disasters.

Rep Molinaro said, “Advocating for individuals with disabilities and breaking down barriers has been a big part of my life’s work. I’m still fighting and making real progress. My Think DIFFERENTLY About Emergencies Act was introduced last week and it’s already earned enough bipartisan support to advance to the House Floor. When natural disasters happen, this bill will help emergency crews meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities.”
