Rep. Molinaro Announces Over $200K in Federal Funds for Cancer Research at Cornell University

Ithaca, NY – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) today announced Cornell University has received $233,883 in federal funding for cancer research.

This funding is available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’s (HHS) National Cancer Institute. It will be used to support the development of therapies to treat lymphatic cancers.

Rep. Molinaro said, “Cornell University is on the cutting edge of cancer research. I am glad to announce they will be receiving over $200,000 in federal funds to advance this critical work. With Cornell leading the way, we can and will discover therapies that help people in our community and around the world beat cancer.”

“We have developed unique imaging tools to visualize the cellular dynamics of living tissues and organs. With this new funding, we will team with clinical researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine to use these tools to observe the interactions between cells in lymphomas. Our goal is to understand why certain lymphoma patients respond to state-of-the-art immune therapies while others are resistant,” said Dr. Chris Xu, IBM Professor and Director of the School of Applied and Engineering Physics and the Mong Family Foundation Director of Cornell Neurotech at Cornell University. “We thank Congressman Molinaro for his strong support for biomedical research, which will push our technology forward and improve the effectiveness of immunotherapies.”
