Molinaro Passes 6th Standalone Bill With Bipartisan Support

Bill Delivers Support & Relief to Family Caregivers

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19) today announced the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. He introduced this bill alongside U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-CA-29). Rep. Molinaro has passed 54 bipartisan measures with six being standalone bills and has had 12 measures signed into law. He was ranked the second most bipartisan member of Congress by the nonpartisan Lugar Center and is in the top five for most bills passed in Congress.

Respite services offer families temporary care or supervision for children and adults of all ages with disabilities and chronic conditions. The Lifespan Respite Care Program, which was authorized by Congress in 2006, provides states with federal funding to offer these respite services. In New York, the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition receives this funding and uses it to train hundreds of volunteer respite providers.

With the Lifespan Respite Care Program set to expire in fiscal year 2024, Rep. Molinaro’s bill reauthorizes the Lifespan Respite Care Program for 4 years. His bipartisan bill provides family caregivers with relief and support to help them maintain a normal life.

Rep. Molinaro said, "By passing the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act, we will continue providing caregivers with the relief and assistance they deserve. I'm proud to have this bill pass with bipartisan support to reaffirm our commitment to family caregivers who so selflessly care for a loved one with a disability or chronic illness. They deserve our utmost support."
