This Is Why I'll Carry Upstate NY Values With Me Every Day

By Congressman Marc Molinaro (NY-19):

Since I was elected late last year to represent New York’s 19th Congressional District, I have consistently received variations of the same question: ‘What type of representative will you be?’

It’s a fair question.

Much attention has been given to the recent intra-party squabbles in Congress and partisan disagreements and gridlock that will arise in a divided government. Less attention however has been given to the approach that governing-minded Republicans like myself intend to take to build consensus and deliver for the communities they represent.

Serving in local government, I have had a front row seat to many struggles that Upstate New Yorkers face and how to develop meaningful solutions.

Farmers, working families, and our rural communities are struggling – especially as inflation and gas prices continue to run wild. Deteriorating infrastructure plagues our region, while families and businesses regularly travel on crumbling roads and are hampered by unreliable and unaffordable internet and cell service. Mental healthcare, the opioid epidemic, and support for individuals with disabilities are rarely prioritized and our neighbors are unfairly paying the price.

Upstate New Yorkers are rightfully concerned local issues like these have been overlooked and ignored by Washington.

This is unacceptable.

As a Mayor and County Executive, I learned that the decisions we make in government have a real impact on real people. I also learned to confront our challenges, we must accept our differences and build on common concerns.

Too often, Washington forgets these lessons.

That’s why, in Congress I vow to carry Upstate New York’s voice with me every day and work to find common ground – no matter how elusive.

Representing New York’s 19th Congressional District is the highest honor of my life and more than likely – my greatest challenge to date. But I have never shied away from a fight, and I am ready to get to work on behalf of our community.
