Washington, DC – Today on tax day, U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19) announced the introduction of the bipartisan SALT Deductibility Act – fulfilling a promise he made to craft a bill that eliminates the SALT cap. Rep. Molinaro joined U.S. Reps. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-2) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5) in introducing this bipartisan bill. In 2017, the SALT deduction was capped at $10,000. In high tax states like New York, this resulted in a tax increase for many middle-class families. The bipartisan SALT Deductibility Act repeals the SALT deduction cap, allowing taxpayers to fully deduct state and local taxes on their federal income returns. Rep. Molinaro said, “I’m proud to be fulfilling a pledge I made to craft legislation that fully repeals the SALT cap. This cap unfairly burdens middle class families in high tax states like New York. By eliminating the SALT cap, we will cut taxes and allow middle class families to keep more of their hard-earned money.” New York State Senator Peter Oberacker said, “New York is a national leader in many ways and unfortunately high property taxes are among those categories. I applaud Congressman Marc Molinaro for his work to eliminate the SALT cap which is costing middle-class families and driving many out of our state. As I press for affordability measures in Albany it is good to know that like-minded officials are at work in Washington D.C.” Earlier this year, Rep. Molinaro also joined the SALT Caucus, a bipartisan Congressional Caucus that aims to eliminate the SALT cap. |
